International Driver's License Information for Driving in Taiwan

Customers with a driver's license issued in a country other than France, Germany, Switzerland, Monaco, Belgium, Taiwan, or Estonia

You must have a valid passport and an international driving license issued by your country's certification body.

Caution: The international driver's license must comply with the 1949 Geneva Convention on International Road Traffic.

The validity period of the international driver's license is 1 year from the date of issuance (please check the issuance date). The validity period for driving in Taiwan is 1 year from the date of entry, confirmed by the entry stamp in your passport. International driving licenses issued under the Paris Convention (1926), Washington Convention (1943), or Vienna Convention (1968) are not recognized in Taiwan.

Please note: English driver's licenses (licenses written in English on the plastic back) are not valid in Taiwan. Ensure you obtain a paper international driver's license.

If you have an international driver's license issued in another country, please contact the Okitour via chat or Email, and we will confirm its validity. In some cases, you may be asked to bring your home country's driver's license along with your international driving license, so please bring it with you.

ID is required when picking up the car

• Those who return the car within 30 days of entering the country must show when renting the car:

1. A valid international driver's license issued by the reciprocal country (check the relationship between the reciprocal country)
2. The driver's license of the original country
3. Credit card / (valid for more than six months)
4. Passport

• Those who cannot return the car within 30 days of entry must present:

1. International driver's license visa (How to apply for an international driver's license visa?) or Taiwan's national driver's license (How to replace a foreign driver's license with a domestic driver's license?)
2. Credit card (valid for more than six months)
3. Passport

From Hong Kong and Macau:

1. Driver's license issued by Hong Kong/Macau
2. Passport
3. Credit card (valid for more than six months)

Japanese:

1. Chinese translation of Japanese driver's license
2. Japanese driver's license
3. Passport
4. Credit card (valid for more than six months)

※When picking up the car at the station, please be sure to bring a credit card (debit cards are not accepted). If you cannot pick up the car if you present the debit card when picking up the car, the deposit will not be refunded.
